Moringa (botanical name Moringa oleifera) is known in Europe as the “horseradish tree” and is native to the Himalayan region of northwestern India. In Ayurveda, usually the leaves of the plant are being used.
Produced from the green Moringa fruit is a vegetable called Drumstick which can be found everywhere in India in the popular “Sambar curry”. Drumstick vegetable is eaten almost daily in India. In South India, Kerala and Tamil Nadu it is one of the most important vegetables, which is often even grown in their own garden.
The Moringa tree needs a lot of sunlight to “produce” many fruits. The Moringa fruit and leaves contain lots iron, protein, calcium, vitamin C, beta carotenes, vitamin E and plenty of anti-oxidants.
Moringa is considered a real “superfood”, which is especially valuable for a balanced and healthy diet.
