Trikatu which translated means “The three strong plants” is a blend of Ayurvedic spices which consist of three spicy herbs: Pippali, Maricha and Sunthi. These are the Sanskrit terms for: long pepper (Pippali), black pepper and ginger. This blend of traditional hot spices in Ayurveda strengthens Agni, the digestive fire and cleans shrotas, the metabolic pathways.
The three herbs have the strong flavor of Rasa. From the Ayurvedic perspective they reduce Vata and Kapha. In Ayurveda, it is considered that Trikatu stimulates both the airways and the digestive system. Because of its pungent taste, Trikatu powder should be taken with honey or in the form of an herbal mixture. Ideal as a cooking ingredient.
